Powerful Advocates for Abolition
Witness to Innocence members are among the most powerful advocates for criminal justice reform and death penalty abolition in the United States. The death row exoneree members of Witness to Innocence use their powerful stories of being wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death to reach even the most steadfast supporters of the death penalty. Our members participate in speaking tours and marches, testify in legislatures, meet with state representatives to encourage legislative action, and more.
WTI also hosts many events each year, including our Annual Gathering bringing together exonerated death row survivors and their loved ones for empowerment, community, and advocacy work to change the system.
Our members also champion Justice After Exoneration, a project focused on gaining fair compensation for exonerated death row survivors, and the Accuracy & Justice series working with law enforcement officials and prosecutors across the country.
Lastly, Witness to Innocence provides comprehensive exoneree support programs including the Emergency Fund and social work through the DREAMS Project.
