Portraits by Daniel Bolick

We love these paintings by Pittsburgh-based artist and educator Daniel Bolick (we love him even more for teaching art for 34 years in that city’s public schools!). The description on his website captures the power of his exoneree paintings:

“In his ongoing series of portraits of exonerated death row and life-sentenced prisoners, Bolick captures the intensity of his subjects through his use of color and painting style. The large scale of many of these paintings – nearly seven feet tall in some cases – symbolizes the enormity of unfairness in the U.S. justice system.”

Daniel also did these amazing sketches of John, Dan, Albert, and Michael that include their musings on being sent to death row for a crime they did not commit.
